Yep, that's what I tend to do now, just gently squeeze the front brake lever as you let off the throttle, not enough to engage the brake, but
enough to close the brake light switch.

if your gear ratios are close together, then slipping down a gear or two in order to slow down works ok but, block changing down to slow down will end in tears

look on engine braking as great to use so long as you have the space to slow down more slowly. brakes are also very useful to use beacuse they activate the
brake light which is , afterall a signal to other road users you are slwoing down…engine braking may not be spotted so easily by saxo cager man!!!
